KIRK WINDSTEIN To Sit Out KINGDOM OF SORROW Tour: TYPE O NEGATIVE's HICKEY To Step In

August 13, 2010

Kenny Hickey of TYPE O NEGATIVE will fill in for guitarist Kirk Windstein during KINGDOM OF SORROW's upcoming Ozzfest run.

Hickey previously toured with KINGDOM OF SORROW in 2008 while Windstein was on the road with DOWN.

Commented Windstein: "Just wanted to let everyone know that I will be taking a much-needed break and will not be joining my bros in KINGDOM OF SORROW for Ozzfest.

"I have entered the AA program and am turning over a new leaf. 25 years of gigging and touring has taken its toll and my drinking is now preventing me from being the healthiest, best player that I can be.

It's been a fun ride, but I'm ready to tackle this sober and look forward to being at the top of my game with all of my projects!

"I am happy to say that Kenny Hickey will once again be filling my spot for these eight shows.

"Thanks, Kenny; I love you bro!!!

"Thanks to everyone for their support."

Added KINGDOM OF SORROW frontman Jamey Jasta: "The road is no place for Kirk right now. He has begun to address his problems so he can lead a happy and healthy life and continue to rock with DOWN, CROWBAR and KINGDOM OF SORROW. I only want the best for him and I feel like sitting this tour out is a step in the right path."

KINGDOM OF SORROW will kick off the first run of tour dates in support of the band's new album, "Behind The Blackest Tears", on August 17 in Tinley Park, just outside of Chicago, Illinois.

The band recently added two Ozzfest off-date performances, partnering with tourmates BLACK LABEL SOCIETY in Fort Wayne, Indiana as well as DEVILDRIVER and SKELETONWITCH in Rochester, New York.
